Shoreview

Emblem

Age 90, of Shoreview, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025.

Preceded in death by parents, Arnold & Beatrice Rose (née Clement).

Survived by loving wife of 38 years, Melody; children, Mike Rose, Alan Rose, Robyn (Gaurav) Guliani, Ryan (Cara) McCann, Adam (Laura) McCann; grandchildren, Tyler (Sam), Kaitlyn, Nataly, Elise, Eva, Dilan, Gavin & Leela; sister, Deanna Rose; brother, Larry Rose; and nieces & nephews.

Dick was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on September 24, 1934. He moved to St. Paul, MN in January 1955 and worked for the railroad as a telegraph operator. He enlisted in the Army in 1956 and served honorably for 2 years in Lawrence, Indiana (Fort Benjamin Harrison) and in North Carolina (Fort Bragg). From there he moved back to Minnesota, where he continued to work for the Great Northern Railway. His telegraph skills transferred over to court reporting in the late 1960s, when he worked for Hennepin County for about 13 years. Then in the early 1980s, he started his own company in the industrial cleaning supplies industry which he operated until retirement. Having grown up during the Great Depression, Dick was a frugal man who frequently used coupons and passed that thriftiness onto his children.

He was an avid storyteller with an amazing sense of humor, always joking around and making his grandchildren giggle with excitement. His hobbies included tennis (playing up until a few years ago!), taking long walks daily, and keeping up with the local sports teams. One of his favorite hobbies was flying a single engine Cessna plane across the US and Canada; he had some wild (and scary) stories from those adventures. He would spend his mornings working on the Pioneer Press crossword puzzle, which kept his mind sharp as a tack. He also loved hockey; he taught his children how to skate from an early age, and would always show up to his kids' and grandkids' hockey, baseball, volleyball, and soccer games. For those that knew and loved him, there is a void that can never be filled.

To honor Dick's memory, a visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am Thursday, April 24 at North Heights Lutheran Church (Roseville Campus), 2701 Rice St., Roseville, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.

Private interment at Roselawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Heart Association in Dick's name.
