Carl Richard “Dick” Lasch was born December 19, 1937 to Carl and Helen Lasch in Grand Forks, ND.
Dick graduated from Moorhead HS and began college at the University of Minnesota, cementing him forever as a lifetime Gopher fan! After his sophomore year, he transferred to Moorhead State University. Dick wrestled and was the captain of the golf team as a Dragon. Dick met Jeanne Dahl during his senior year.
Dick and Jeanne were married August 20, 1960 and immediately moved to Circle Pines, MN where they both had signed teaching contracts with a new school – Centennial ISD 12. Dick started his Centennial teaching career as a 5th grade classroom teacher. After one year, he became the Centennial District Elementary Physical Education Coordinator as well as area Recreation Director. Later in his career, Dick returned to the classroom.
A few of the programs Dick began within the Centennial Area:
- the Centennial Legion Baseball team (and was the head coach for several years)
- the Centennial Youth Hockey Program with four squirt teams
- the Saturday Morning Elementary Basketball Program
Dick also began the district-wide 5th grade Track and Field meet still held annually today, as well as the district-wide 6th Grade Softball Tournament held each spring. Dick also coached many years at Centennial High School - Softball, Girls Basketball, and Girls Golf. Dick was inducted in the Centennial Hall of Fame in 2016.
Dick is survived by wife Jeanne of 64 years; brother Bob of Fargo ND; son Dan (Nancy) Lasch of Alexandria; daughter Kathy (Tim) Peterson of Forest Lake; daughter Susan (Dave) Whitmore of Blaine; grandchildren, Tim (Alexandra) Lasch, Rob (Cally) Lasch, Zach (Sarah) Peterson, Ben Peterson, Quin Peterson, Jake (Sammy) Moen, Sara Moen (Noah); and four great-grandchildren, Carl, Allan, Zoey, and Violet.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 PM Tuesday, June 4 at Lyngblomsten at Lino Lakes, 6070 Blanchard Blvd., Lino Lakes, MN 55014. Visitation at Lyngblomsten from 4-5 PM Tuesday 6/4. Directions from Centennial (due to construction) – take Lexington Ave south to County Road J east, then left on Blanchard Blvd-- 6070 Blanchard Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred and will be used honoring Dick with Centennial Activities.
