Craig Jonathan Riis

Age 53, died unexpectedly December 24, 2021, at home, from a heart attack.  He was born January 24, 1968, in St Paul, the son of John Richard Riis and Linda Lee (Carney) Riis. Craig graduated from Forest Lake High School, Class of 1986. Following graduation, he completed an Associates Degree in Business and began his career in the marine industry. He retired from Hallberg Marine due to ongoing health issues and to be a stay-at-home dad. He married Lara Umback in 2005 and they settled near Almelund. Craig was a loyal member of Pintail Pass and Elk River Sportsman’s Clubs, and got lifelong enjoyment from outdoor sports including camping, fishing, hunting, and shooting sports in general, especially trap and skeet with son, Otto.  In addition to his grandparents, he was preceded by his father, John Riis; and stepfather, John Martin.  Survived by wife, Lara; children, Otto and Lauren; stepson, Tristen Agar; mother, Linda Carney; brother, David (Becca) Martin and their sons; sister, Cari (Brian) Riis Stemmler; uncle, Terry Carney; his faithful Labrador retrievers; and numerous extended family.  Funeral service 11 AM Friday, January 7 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home-Roseville, 2130 N. Dale St. at County Road B. Visitation at the funeral home from 4-8 PM Thursday and also 10-11 AM Friday, prior to the service.  Interment Elmhurst Cemetery.
