In Loving Memory of Daniel Joseph Wanless It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel Joseph Wanless, at age 43. Daniel was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 20 years old. Throughout his life, he struggled to maintain his health and last summer 2023 he went into a diabetic coma. Though he recovered, his health continued to be a constant struggle, both physically and mentally. On June 3rd, 2024, his body could no longer sustain him.
Daniel’s life was marked by a deep passion for philosophy, an unwavering love for basketball, and a dedication to his family and friends.
Daniel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Nyack College, a Master’s of New Testament from Alliance Theological Seminary, and a PhD in Philosophy from Albany State University of New York.
His intellectual pursuits were complemented by his love for the outdoors, traveling, and listening to music. Daniel’s sharp wit and sense of humor left an indelible mark on everyone he met, and he made friends wherever he went.
An avid reader, Daniel’s home was filled with books that reflected his wide-ranging interests and insatiable curiosity. He was a professor for over 17 years (at a variety of colleges in New York and Minnesota) and he loved to share his insights with his students.
Daniel is preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard & Hilda Gorman; uncles, Glenn Goiffon & Mike Vestal; and cousin,
Angela Vestal.
He is survived by wife, Deeta (née Forrest); children, Judah, Soren & Briel; parents, Jane (née Gorman) Wanless & Steve Wanless; siblings, Tony (Kaity) Gorman, Steven Wanless, Jr. & Dana Wanless; nieces & nephews, Caleb (Dayna), Ashley, Nathaniel, Joshua, Odelia; and many aunts, uncles & cousins.
Visitation 10:00 - 11:00 am Thursday, June 13 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home (Roseville), 2130 N. Dale St. at County Rd. B followed by a celebration of Daniel's life at 11:00 am.
Interment Roselawn Cemetery.
