Circle Pines

Age 73, of Circle Pines, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on August 6th following a short fight with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.   Preceded in death by parents, John and Genevieve Hordyk; and siblings, Shirley, Casey, and Kenneth.   Survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Patricia (nee Martin); children, Sara, Matthew (Taija), and Evan (Laura); grandchildren, Resha and Madison Portner, Bella Hordyk, Charlotte Barnett, and Luka Hordyk; sister, Rosalie (Fred) Cherrone; and many nieces and nephews.   Doug was proud of his Polish heritage, his college years at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and his Phi Sigma Epsilon brothers, his work as a lather, and most recently, his 17 years of service with the City of Minneapolis as a building inspector and Fire Inspections Coordinator.  He was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI.  He was a devoted “Sconnie” fan and enjoyed watching Wisconsin Badger football and basketball games and proudly wearing his array of Wisconsin t-shirts.  Doug loved to read, hunt and especially fish in the northwoods of Wisconsin.   Our thanks to the oncology staff of St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood and Fairview Hospice for providing outstanding care and comfort over the course of his illness.   Memorial visitation 4-6 PM Thursday, August 20 at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME-LINO LAKES, 7050 Lake Dr. (Cty Hwy 23).
