Elaine M. Cownie (nee LaCasse), passed away after a lengthy illness with family by her side.
Elaine was a Roseville resident but lived most of her life in the Como Park area of St. Paul. She graduated from Our Lady of Peace High School in 1959, where she made lifelong friends. She was a member of Holy Childhood Parish for over 60 years. In retirement Elaine and Dick spent 18 winters in Destin, Florida where they made friends from all over the U.S. and Canada.
Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and was especially happy to become a great-grandmother. She started playing golf in her mid-30’s and played for about 50 years. She was a longtime member of Keller, Como and Phalen women’s golf leagues. She won a club championship at Como as well as some state tournaments. Elaine was also an avid bowler – she won a state 600 bowling tournament.
Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Richard (married almost 63 years); parents Clement and Eloise LaCasse; brothers, Donald and Jerome LaCasse; and sister, Mary Katherine Flanigan.
She is survived by sons, David (Annmarie) and James (Maggie); grandchildren, Kirsten (Zach) Bury, Kevin (Alexa), Ben, and Emerson; and great grandson Linden Bury. She is also survived by her brother, John (Wena) LaCasse and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial for Elaine will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 6 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church, 1435 Midway Parkway, St. Paul. Visitation at the church from 10-11 AM Friday. Private family interment at Roselawn Cemetery.
