Elsie Eleanor Bloom

Elsie E. Bloom, age 63, of Blaine, MN. Formerly of Watertown, SD.

Passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

She spent 18 courageous years researching treatment and fighting cancer.

Elsie was born on August 16, 1960 to Richard H. "Jim" and Mildred F. "Millie" (née Hammond) Johnson of Watertown, SD, in Long Beach, CA, where her dad was stationed in the US Navy. Her parents traveled between California and South Dakota while her dad was in the service and in 1978, Elsie graduated from Watertown Senior High after moving back to the state in 1972, and participated in the Ki-Yi homecoming parade as royalty.

After graduation, Elsie attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, SD, where she graduated on June 21, 1979 with a degree in Private Secretarial. She started her career in the Rural Infant Care Program at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls before entering the legal field at East River Legal Services. Elsie worked in the legal field for the rest of her career as a paralegal assistant, most notably with the law firms Popham Haik in Minneapolis, and Krug & Zupke in St. Paul, MN.

Elsie had a love of photography during her travels, loved table and party games, and spent many years in her gardens which were a product of extensive landscaping.

Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, and grandparents. Elsie is survived by her sons, Evan (Amber) and Owen Bloom; sisters, Debbie (Tom) Hurst, Vicky (David) Smith; brothers, Rick (Kathy), Stanley, and Henry (VeraKay) Johnson.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Elsie’s memory in Watertown, SD at a later date.
