Age 92
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Fitzpatrick, and mother, Evalyn (Gorman) Fitzpatrick. Ordained at the Cathedral of St. Paul on June 7, 1952, he was active in ministry for over 60 years, serving parishes in the Twin Cities and area suburbs, Father Fitzpatrick enthusiastically embraced the work of the Second Vatican Council and encouraged his parishioners to share church leadership and work for justice. He initiated family-oriented education programs that enabled parents to assume primary responsibility for their children's spiritual formation. He encouraged activities for youth, even soliciting donated ski equipment to provide them the opportunity to go on weekly trips to nearby slopes. His ministry and his life were marked by hospitality and generosity, respect for people, and compassion for all their concerns. He loved the Scriptures and music, skiing and the outdoors, lively conversation and a good joke. The memory of him singing "Danny Boy" will remain a fond one for many.
