Gary Wendell Jones was born on April 21, 1946 in St. Paul MN to Wendell and Pearl Jones. He grew up in St. Paul with his 4 siblings.​

He attended Faith Lutheran Church, where he was both baptized and confirmed. Gary graduated from Washington High School in 1964.​

Before graduating high school, Gary achieved the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. After graduation, he was drafted to the US Army in 1965 and served until September 14, 1967.​

In 1974, Gary joined the North St Paul Police department. During his service with this Police Force, he was awarded Life Saving Awards. Gary went on to the New Brighton Police department and remained in service there for 25 years. In addition to his police service, he worked part time as a Metro Transit Police Officer.

Gary is survived by his wife, Judith Kay Jerke who he married on August 30, 1969. He was very thankful for being able to share 51 years with her.

He is also survived by their two children, Cory (wife Melissa) Jones and Curt (Michelle Columbus-Wilson) Jones.​

Gary had 6 grandchildren that he adored, Michaela, Madison, Collin, Nick, Abby, and Kyle. Gary is survived by his sister, Sandy (husband Mel) Hanna Larson, Ron (wife Virginia) Jones, Greg (wife Yvonne) Jones and Doug Jones.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Pearl; his brother-in-law, Tom Hanna; brother-in-law, Delmar Jerke; brother in law, David Jerke, mother-in-law, Viola Jerke; and father-in-law, Elmer Jerke.

Gary enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, gardening and cheering on the Vikings.

Funeral service 2:00 PM Friday, October 2, 2020 at NORTH HEIGHTS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2701 N. Rice St., Roseville. Visitation AT THE CHURCH, from 1-2PM Friday. Private Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gary’s name to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
