Age 88, of St. Paul, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2022 with her family holding her hand and whispering their unending love and devotion. Genie will be remembered for her contagious laugh and joyful personality. She was passionate about traveling and especially enjoyed opportunities to vacation in Maui. She was always willing to share this island experience and travelled there with many friends and family. Her work experience began after high school as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines. This was likely the spark that ignited her love of travel. She also worked for many years as a receptionist for an orthopedic surgeon. This position fitted her well as she was very caring and compassionate. Genie was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynn Peterson. Following Lynn’s cancer diagnosis, Genie devoted a great deal of her time volunteering as a patient driver for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed meeting the patients and offered them love and encouragement. She thought of it as a way to pay back for Lynn’s initial recovery. Genie is survived by children, Carol Roquette, Roger Scherma, Laura (Jon) Miller; grandchildren, Amy (Eric), Jake, Shane, Brett, Tyler, Garret, Colton, Hannah (Eric), Mason, Logan; and great grandchildren. A visitation is scheduled for 12:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM on Tuesday April 12, 2022 at Roseville Lutheran Church, 1215 Roselawn Ave. W., Roseville, where Genie was a long-standing member and part of the quilters group. A luncheon will follow the service and then a procession to Union Cemetery in Maplewood, where she will be buried near her parents, Erhart and Elfie (Gustafson) Miels; brother, Roger Miels; and sister, Audrey Miels. A warm and heartfelt thank you to HealthPartners Hospice and New Perspective-Roseville’s care teams for their tender, loving care.
