Passed away peacefully on February 23, 2018. Preceded in death by wife, Shirley. Survived by sons, Dan (Gloria), Mark (Hong), Todd (Maureen Mullen); grandchildren, Lindsey (John), Ashley (Dusty), Erik, Catherine; and great grandchildren, Hayden, Lucy & Brooks; and his very special friend, Lorraine. Funeral service 2:00 PM Saturday, March 3 at Path of Grace United Methodist Church, 759 E. County Road B, Maplewood. Visitation at the church from 1-2 PM Saturday.George joined the Navy after High School. While in the Navy George received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University. After World War II, he was assigned to the Naval Reserve. He enrolled at the University of Nebraska and received a degree in Chemical Engineering. While at Iowa State, George lettered in track. George married Shirley (Beck) and had ‘my three sons’ – Dan, Mark, and Todd. George retired from 3M after 40 years as an engineer. He was also a long time member of the YMCA Service Club, and avid gardener with his grandkids. George enjoyed annual fishing trips to Lake Vermilion with his family. The last fourteen years of George’s life were truly enriched in spending time together and traveling with his special friend, Lorraine Swanson.
