Glenyce T. (Metzger) Sellards

Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother

Passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024.

Preceded in death by husbands, Bill Metzger and Gene Sellards; son, Bob Metzger; and siblings, George Bauer, Wes Bauer, and Arnie Bauer.

Survived by children, Bill (Sue) Metzger and Jim (Dorothy) Metzger; daughter-in-law, Julianne Metzger; stepchildren, Cindy (Bruce) Gutweiler and Craig (Theresa) Sellards; grandchildren, Kate (Eric) Ronning, Steve Metzger, Mike (Anne) Metzger, Stacy (Jim) Bever, Joe (Kat) Metzger, Jenny Metzger; step-grandchildren, Deirdre Brisbois, Amanda (Jared) Nielson, Dylan (Selena) Sellards; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Glenyce was a stay-at-home mom volunteering in school, church and supporting The Metzger Cafe on Lower Payne Avenue when needed. After the closure of the cafe in 1966, Bill & Glenyce both became realtors. Glenyce later transitioned to becoming a real estate closer with Burnet Realty until retirement. Glenyce and Bill raised their three sons on the East Side of St. Paul remaining lifelong, active Johnson High School alumni, hockey parents, and fans. Glenyce was a devoted mother and was her sons’ number one fan in whatever they were doing; sports-related or otherwise. Glenyce loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always cheering them on in their athletic and non-athletic pursuits, often in person and more recently by hearing about them. She was the ultimate hockey fan throughout her entire life…. following her brothers, husband Bill, sons, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters and great-grandsons! Her love of family also included her many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Bill passed away in May 1998. They had been married for 53 years. She met and married Gene Sellards in 2000. They had been married for 20 years. They enjoyed their marriage and retirement years traveling, playing golf, and supporting the VFW where Gene was an active member. As life started to slow down, they moved from their Hugo home to Gable Pines Living Facility in Vadnais Heights. Gene passed away in March 2021 and Glenyce moved to Assisted Living and then to memory care with hospice in August of 2022 until passing away in her sleep on January 23, 2024. The family is deeply indebted to the staff and the hospice care she received during the transition periods of her life.
