Age 93, Gordy passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday November 3, 2019.
Preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; and parents, Clarence and Margaret. Survived by sons, Philip (Jean) and Paul, also two nieces and a nephew. Gordy was drafted into the Army in 1945, and after two years transferred to the USAF from which he retired in 1968 with 23 years of service. His time with the USAF found Gordy in many historic arenas, like the 1948 Berlin Airlift, Key West, FL during the Cuban Missile crisis, Bangkok in pre-Vietnam era, followed by two tours in Vietnam. He retired in 1968 from the USAF, taking the family to Minnesota. He found work with NW Bell where he retired after 17 years, never taking one sick day. His interests were his love of travel, photography, woodwork and electronics. He and Viv enjoyed being active in the community and as Keep-Zimmer Post 1782 Life Members, spent many satisfying hours serving their fellow veterans. Funeral service 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 12 at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME-ROSEVILLE, 2130 N. Dale Street at County Road B. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home from 10-11 AM Tuesday. Gordon & Vivian’s generous nature led them to make donations to dozens of charities annually. We encourage, in lieu of flowers, memorials be preferred to the donor’s choice. Thanks to the many local dining establishments and their staff that brought so much happiness to Gordy’s visits in his later years!
