Harold J. Hebl

Age 94, of St. Paul Passed away peacefully June 25, 2017 Preceded in death by wife, Agatha; daughter, Paula Bowman; sister, Loretta Holmquist and brother, Donald Hebl. Survived by children Karol (Boyd) Bowman, Adele, Kevin (Rosita), Steven (Chris) and Rita Finsky; son-in-law Lanny Bowman; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harold grew up on a farm near Waterville, MN, and earned a BS in Music and Sociology, MS in Music Education from Mankato State and MS in Counseling & Guidance from St. Thomas. He taught music in Waterville, Forest Lake, and St. Paul schools before becoming a school counselor. After retiring from St. Paul Public Schools, he became Executive Director of the MN School Counselor’s Assn. and worked for ACT Testing.  He served on many Boards, including the Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation of America, MN Senior Federation, Mayor’s Advisory Committee on the Aging, St. Paul Retired Teachers Assn., and Friends of the St. Paul Public Library. He received numerous accolades and awards for his work, including the Carl Perkins Government Relations Award from the American Counselors Assn, a group of over 50,000 counselors from all fields of counseling. Harold enjoyed a lifelong love of music, creating stained glass art, as well as playing bridge, gardening and traveling the world with Agatha. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Friday, June 30 at MATERNITY OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1414 N. Dale St., St. Paul. Entombment Calvary Cemetery. Visitation at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME – ROSEVILLE, 2130 N. Dale St. at County Road B, from 6-8 PM Thursday and at the church from 9:30-10:30 AM Friday. Memorials preferred to University of Minnesota Alzheimer’s Research (Grossman Center), Friends of the St. Paul Public Library, Cerenity-Marian of St. Paul, or Maternity of Mary Church.
