Irene Lois (Helgaas) Waage of St. Paul, MN was born August 22, 1924 in Duluth, MN and died January 13, 2024 in St. Paul, MN.
Her parents were Nikolai and Oline Helgaas, both immigrants from Norway (1906 & 1905 respectively). She was raised in Duluth, MN and graduated from Central High School in 1943. She enlisted in the Navy (Waves) October 17, 1944 and trained at Hunter College in New York and served in Washington D.C. working at the Navy Annex across from Arlington Cemetery. She received an Honorable Discharge December 13, 1945. She then worked for the Wage & Excise Tax Department in the Bureau of Internal Revenue January 1946 to August 1950.
Irene Waage was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Waage (November 11, 1997); brother, Orville Helgaas (May 2, 2002); and sisters, Evelyn (Julian) Steen (April 17, 2006) and Margaret (Harold) Hill (May 8, 2003).
Survivors are 3 children, David Waage, Cheryl Waage Hastings (Daren) and Debra Waage Graf (Timothy); 5 grandchildren, Steven, Daniel and Thomas Graf, and Sarah and William Hastings.
Funeral service 11:00 AM Thursday, January 25 at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3115 N. Victoria St., Roseville. Visitation at the church from 10-11 AM Thursday.
Interment Roselawn Cemetery.
