Emblem

In loving memory of James "Jim" John Wychor II, who passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on January 17, 2024 after fighting a courageous battle of respiratory onset ALS.

Jim was born on Labor Day, September 1, 1958 in Algona, IA to James Wychor, Sr. and Carol (Lindholm) Wychor. After living in Michigan and West Virginia, he grew up in Worthington, MN and graduated from Worthington High School. He attended Worthington Community College and then transferred to Mankato State University where he graduated with a Law Enforcement degree. His Law Enforcement career includes Algona Police Department, Algona, Iowa (where he was born); Worthington Police Department, Worthington, MN (where he grew up); and Saint Anthony Police Department (where he retired from after 23 years of service). Although he retired in 2011, he remained part of the SAPD family.

Jim was proud of his family. He married Diane (McNab) May 1, 1982. God blessed them with four boys to raise and three grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing with them his love of football and wrestling and the great out doors, but most of all his respect for firearms and hunting. Many cherished memories were made at the Wychor Deer Camp at Swan River.

After retirement, Jim finally convinced Diane to allow him to purchase his first, second, and even third motorcycle. He enjoyed many motorcycle trips with friends and the wind therapy it provided. His love of motorcycles opened a new community where he was able to give back to those who served our country, becoming involved in the Minnesota Patriot Guard, Tribute to the Troops, and Wheels of Honor Minnesota.

Jim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Diane; sons, David (Christian Baeff), James III (Amber), Adam (Kiley Pronschinske), and Tim; grandchildren, Reese, James IV, and Cooper; and brother, Matthew (Jane).

He is preceded in death by his father, James Sr; mother, Carol; sister, Susan; brother, Lawrence; and many other family and friends.

Memorial service will be Saturday, January 27, 2024 with visitation at 9:30 am and service at 11:00 am. The service will be at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Circle Pines. It will also be livestreamed on YouTube, go to www.goodshepherdlink.org (click ‘Livestream’ in the yellow banner at the top of the page).

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials sent to ALS Association MN, Team Gleason Foundation or the charity of your choice.

The family hopes that Jim’s life serves as a testament to the value of faith, family, friends, and the importance of serving others.
