Jerry Jacobson

Jerry (Jerome Randy) Jacobson passed away Sunday, July 17, at the age of 62 in his Cottage Grove home after a battle with cancer.  A wonderful father and grandfather, Jerry will be forever missed by the loves of his life, daughter Shaelyn and son Dustin, and grandsons Dylan and Jayce. He is survived by his siblings Raeoun, sister-in-law Joan Jacobson (Steve’s wife), Tom (Pam), Tracey Brown, Jeff (Janet), Curt (Cyndi), Bev, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and life-long friends. He is also survived by his ex-wife and close friend, Sandie.​Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Beverly Jacobson, siblings Steve and Tamara Jacobson, and brother-in-law Bob Brown.​Jerry grew up in St. Paul and spent summers at the family cabin on Cross Lake in Pine City. He loved life on the lake! He was an avid swimmer and boater. He played many sports in school and enjoyed playing the drums.​He went to St. Paul Technical College for cabinet making and worked in that field for five years. He then began his career with the U.S. Postal Service where he spent 35 years. He was very active in the American Postal Workers Union and served as its local Vice President. He even took American Sign Language classes so he could better assist his colleagues with hearing loss. He leaves behind many dear USPS and APWU friends.​Jerry married Sandie (Erickson) in 1979 and they moved to Cottage Grove where they raised their two children. He served as a volunteer firefighter & EMT with the Cottage Grove Fire Department Station #2 for eight years. Jerry enjoyed taking his family boating, whether on the St. Croix River or at the cabin in Pine City. Some of his favorite family vacations included resorts in northern Minnesota, a fly-in fishing trip to Canada, and gambling in Las Vegas. He always enjoyed watching his kids play sports, attending a dance competition, watching his daughter cheerlead, or helping his son build a derby car.​Jerry liked golfing and took several golf trips with buddies over the years. He rooted for his Minnesota Twins, the Wild, Gopher Hockey and was a die-hard fan of the Vikings. Jerry was also known to take a trip or two to the casino. He liked going with friends, or even by himself.​Jerry was his grandsons’ biggest fan and loved cheering them on at their baseball and football games. He was excited with every opportunity to chauffeur his grandsons to school or sporting events, always ending their adventure with McDonald’s. Dylan and Jayce adored their Grandpa and he adored them.​On July 17th, Jerry’s daughter Shaelyn, lost the first love of her life, her Daddy. On July 17th, Jerry’s son Dustin, lost his best friend, his Dad.​Jerry was always a jovial guy and welcomed you with that warm smile and those twinkling blue eyes. He liked a good scotch on the rocks. Cheers to you, Jer, Dad, Grandpa, brother and friend! A special thank you to Katie at MHealth Fairview Cancer Center (Woodwinds) in Woodbury who always greeted Jerry with a warm smile and a big hello.​Memorial Service 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 26 at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME-ROSEVILLE,  2130 Dale Street North, Roseville, MN 55113. Visitation FROM  10 - 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.  A luncheon will be held afterward at Rosetown American Legion, Post #542, 700 County Road C West, Roseville, MN 55113.  A private interment will be held at a later date.
