Joan George (Liberko)

June 15, 1928 — November 6, 2021

Joan Mary Liberko George passed away on November 6, 2021 at the age of 93 in Hastings, MN. She lived with Alzheimer’s disease with dignity, grace, kindness, humor and love. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Walter, and their son, Thomas (Martha). She is survived by eight children: Roberta Heimerl, Susan (Ivan) Hansen, Gregory (Susan), Diane Tanning, Maureen Klecker, Mary George, Christine (David) Manfred and Michael (Kathy). She is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives. Joan George was from a family of Polish descent, the youngest - and now the last - of six siblings who grew up in Saint Paul, MN. Joan was deeply spiritual, a devout Catholic who strove to live the faith that was dear to her heart. She considered every child as a gift from God, and raised her children to know and love God, to show kindness to everyone, to be responsible and trustworthy, to strive always to do their best and aim to be of service to anyone who needed help. Her long life was filled with loving service to her family, showing special attention in simple ways, sacrificing of her self, her time and her whole existence so that the people around her and depending on her could feel secure, comfortable and happy. By nature a positive and happy person, she loved to play the piano and lead her children in song, in between mountains of laundry, preparing innumerable meals and bag lunches and an endless multitude of other tasks, all carried out joyfully. As her children grew up and had their own families, she kept the family connected. She began to support social causes that she felt strongly about, joined prayer groups and eventually joined the Third Order of the Carmelites, a lay group dedicated to prayer and spiritual contemplation, which she enjoyed so much. She always sought to lift people’s spirits and assure them they were loved. She, in turn, was loved very much and will be greatly missed, while her soul ascends to its eternal home with our heavenly Father.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 10 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 2048 N. Hamline Avenue, Roseville, preceded by visitation at 9:00. The burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in NE Minneapolis.  The family kindly requests that attendees wear masks.
