St. Paul

John G. "Jack" Hennessy, age 74, of St. Paul, MN, passed away at home on January 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was a proud, full blooded Irishman known for his wit and good humor. Jack attended St. Patrick's elementary school, St. Bernard's High School and the University of St. Thomas- ever proud of his excellent Catholic education. He was an educator, coach, and school administrator, first in Catholic schools, then in public education, working in St. Paul Public Schools for more than 20 years. He was also a proud Irish biker, riding his Honda 750 motorcycle for more than 20 years! Jack loved working with his hands in many creative capacities, building historical models reflecting his passion for history, making vintage lamps, painting pictures of scenery, he could fix just about anything. He was an avid reader of world and Irish history, traveling to ancient Roman ruins or visiting the graves of famous Irish rebels. Jack loved music, especially the Boss. However, if you asked him what he loved most in the world, he would tell you it was his family. Jack was married to Cathy (née Crea) for 48.5 years and they raised five daughters in their home in Como Park. Jack claimed he'd finally got his girls' basketball team. Together, they have nine grandchildren who are the loves of their life.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, John P. and Ceil Hennessy; brother-in-law, Don Ricci; nephew, Tim Ricci; sister-in-law, Sharon Hennessy; son-in-law, Chad Rasmussen; brother-in-law, Joe Courteau.

Jack is survived by his wife, Cathy (née Crea); daughters, Noelle Hennessy (Norm Byng), Catherine (Abel) Riodique, Anna (Scott) Barcenilla, Elise Hennessy, Erin Hennessy (Tony Erickson); grandchildren, Liam Patrick Hennessy, Stella Byng, Declan Byng, Berlin Poe Riodique, Nixon Samuel Barcenilla, Rowan Patrick Barcenilla, Finnegan Jack Barcenilla, Cole David Rasmussen, and Syriana Gabrielle Rasmussen; sister, Mary Cay Ricci; niece, Kelly Ricci; brother, Tom Hennessy; many loving sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces nephews, and wonderful friends.

Jack loved deeply and was fiercely protective of his family, often quoting this Gaelic expression- "A chuisle mo chroi".  "You are the beat of my heart".  Rest in God's perfect peace, Jack, for you are forever the beat of our hearts.
