Age 47 Of St. Paul; was killed in a traffic accident in downtown Minneapolis on June 1, 2017. Krista was born on February 19, 1970 to Charles and Deanna Barks Sandstrom in Northfield, MN. She was united in marriage to Kent Christian McGuire on October 2, 1993. She was preceded in death by her mother. Survived by her husband, her son Soren and daughter Birgitta, her father and his wife Dianne Kelly, her brother Scott Sandstrom and step siblings, Kathy Kelly, Amy Kelly, Anne Kelly Berg and Bill Kelly, and many friends and relatives. Krista graduated from Northfield High School and received her undergraduate degrees in History and Anthropology from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She obtained her M.Ed and Ph.D from the University of Minnesota and was employed as Director of Organization Development and Learning for Hennepin County Medical Center. Music played a great role in her life. She was a contracted singer with the Minnesota Chorale and sang regularly with her husband as a member of the New Prescriptions. As an instrumentalist, she played oboe and bassoon, and was learning violin so she could play along with her children for their June 8th recital. Krista recently purchased a mandolin which she hoped would add to her involvement with music. She loved dance, as well. She choreographed dances, set up mirrors and a ballet bar in her living room, and recently began taking Saturday morning ballet classes. Krista practiced environmental conservation and responsible living. The front yard of the family home is decorated with native Minnesota wild flowers and grasses while the back yard is becoming a haven for birds, butterflies, and bees. Krista was an active supporter of rescue animals, Heifer International, and other organizations focusing on humane activities. Visitation will be held at the MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME-ROSEVILLE, 2130 North Dale St. @ Co. Rd B, Thursday June 8, 4-8 PM. A gathering is planned on Friday, June 9, between the hours of 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM with a short program scheduled for noon at the Muriel Sahlin Arboretum, 2525 North Dale Street, Roseville, MN. Those attending may bring a sack lunch and lawn chairs. Water, coffee, and cookies will be provided. Feel free to bring an instrument and your singing voice for impromptu special music.Memorials may be designated for the children's education, to the Minnesota Chorale, 528 Hennepin Ave #407, Minneapolis, MN 55403 or to the family.
