Emblem

Lawrence W. Carroll peacefully passed away with his family by his side on July 2, 2024 after a brief illness.

Larry, as he was known by most, was born on November 6, 1942 to Thomas & Mildred (Hoffman) Carroll in Lancaster, WI and was the 11th of 13 children. Larry married Susan Reitmeier on October 31, 1970 and together they had three children.

Larry is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Lisa (Roger) Lesser of Savage MN, Sharon of Shoreview MN, and Eric (Alyson Sinclair) of Asheville NC; grandkids, Elliott (Megan) Lesser, Lucas Lesser, and Sarah Lesser; great-grandkids, Jorie and Brooks Lesser; and siblings, Rose Mary (Jim) Thompson of Lancaster WI, Richard (Kip) of Hutchinson MN, Robert (Nancy) of Crystal Lake IL and Kathleen (Dick) Lettman of Babson Park FL.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Jim, Roger, Walter, Paul, Ralph, Donald, Dorothy Fishnick and Ruth Irwin.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and a civil engineer for 38 years with the Milwaukee Railroad, the Soo Line Railroad and the Canadian Pacific Railway until his retirement in 2003.

Larry will be remembered for his stories and storytelling, his dry sense of humor, his love of the casino and his love/hate relationship with the Twins and Packers. Larry was also the family historian and he spent the majority of his retirement working on genealogical research, traveling the country visiting National Parks, and keeping the backyard squirrel population under control. Larry was a devoted husband for 53 years, a dedicated father, and a caring grandfather and great-grandfather. His joyous love, sense of humor and entertaining stories will live on with all of those he cared for. We hope the beer in heaven is good, Larry.
