Lorraine A. Stasny

March 26, 1923 — December 26, 2020

Maplewood

Beloved Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma

Age 97; passed away peacefully in her home on December 26, 2020.

Lorraine was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Alice (LeFebvre) and Mark Wynn on March 26, 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; infant daughter, Mary Jo; and sisters, Ethel Mae Skillings and Julia Taube.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Jean Tocko, George (Lisa) Stasny Jr., Carol (Don) Holeman, John (Ada) Stasny, Kathy Stasny, and Jim (Becky) Stasny;  and she was blessed with 15 loving grandchildren: Paul, Jennifer, Laura, Dan, Becky, Ashley, Greg, Brian, Kristen, Daniel, Jawea, Jacob, Aurora, Jeffrey and Jason. They went on to bless her with 27 great-grandchildren.

Lorraine went to Washington High School where she met the love of her life, George. They were married on August 29, 1942. In December he was drafted to serve in WWII and Lorraine worked at Woolworth’s, where she was promoted to store manager. When George returned home after the war, they became owners of Stasny’s Food Market on Western Avenue. They were happily married for 51 years before he passed away.

Lorraine was a fabulous cook. She was known for her delicious creamy fudge which she enjoyed giving away at Christmas time. She volunteered with the Cub Scouts and became a Den Mother. She loved organizing the Pancake Breakfasts at St. Bernard’s.

Lorraine had a zest for life and was always up for the next adventure, from dune buggy rides in the desert to rafting class IV rapids on the river. She enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved traveling with her family and friends and cruising around the world. Going to the casino was one of her favorite things to do.

Later in life, she moved to the Homestead of Maplewood, where her smile and great sense of humor were enjoyed by many. She was always the first to sign up for outings, and was known as the “flower lady” with her brightly decorated scooter. She cherished her family, treasured the little ones, and loved giving hugs and kisses.

A private Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Church of St. Bernard, with interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The service will be recorded for later viewing on the funeral home’s website. A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.

Memorials preferred to Health Partners Hospice. A very special thank you to Jordan and Brenda for their loving care of our Mom.
