Mark Reeves, age 69, passed away peacefully at his home in Circle Pines, MN on January 21, 2023. In his final moments he was surrounded by loved ones with a view of the bird feeders and bird bath he greatly enjoyed. While born in Charleston, IL, Mark spent most of his youth living in Deephaven, MN. After graduating from Minnetonka High School, Mark showed his technical ability by completing his Bachelor's of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Minnesota. During his time as an undergraduate, he was set up on a blind date by his roommate, where he met the love of his life for nearly 50 years, Theresa. Mark accepted a job offer from Chrysler, so after graduation he and Theresa moved to Detroit, MI. While working at Chrysler, Mark also earned his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Mark and Theresa had their first child, Naomi, while living in Michigan. Less than a year after her birth, they moved back to the Twin Cities to be closer to family and because of a promising job opportunity at 3M. While living in Maplewood, they had two sons, Aaron and Dan. The family moved to Mahtomedi, where Mark started his own business after leaving 3M. After Mark and Theresa became empty nesters, they moved to Circle Pines, where they have enjoyed watching the birds, going for walks in the nearby parks, and spoiling their grandchildren to the best of their ability. Mark truly lived his life in service of others. Whether it be for his wife, children, friends, family, community members, or complete strangers, Mark was always selfless in his thoughts and actions. Volunteering countless hours to his church, Boy Scouts, or to those in need, Mark always was willing to share the gifts God had given to him with those who could use them. Always a patient teacher, Mark loved helping others gain skills and further their knowledge. Many projects around the house likely took several times longer than needed due to the inclusion of his "helpers" whom he never discouraged or dismissed. One of Mark's most admirable (and sometimes irritating) qualities was to see the potential good in anything or anyone. Scrap pieces of wood could always be useful down the line, losing a game provided a learning opportunity of how you could improve, the third person to run their car into your mailbox was a way of telling you maybe God just wanted you to have a dented mailbox. That outlook let him make more friends than enemies, gain more knowledge than regrets, and collect more piles of "resources" than most would tolerate. With an incredibly creative mind, Mark was able to experience many unique opportunities throughout his career as an engineer working at Chrysler and 3M. As a highlight were his interactions with the US Olympic luge, gymnastics and downhill skiing teams, where he was able to provide technical solutions to the teams and help them reach their full potential. A lowlight was likely breaking his leg while going down the Olympic luge course in Lake Placid. In addition to his experiences with the Olympics, Mark was also the inventor of the Precise Mousing Surface, a mousepad which was the first product 3M sold globally and on the internet. After 15 years at 3M, his innovative thinking allowed him to become self-employed as a consultant, where he often worked to teach other engineers his method of solving problems. Mark was deeply devoted to his relationship with Christ and was an exemplar case of Jesus' teachings. He would turn the other cheek, he was the good samaritan, he would help the down-trodden and destitute. He knew that his skills and abilities were given by God to help him serve, and that he was simply a steward of the objects afforded to him. He walked with Christ every day on Earth, and he continues to do so now that he has been called home. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Ralph and his mother, Marjorie. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; daughter, Naomi; sons, Aaron (Sarah) and Dan (Lauren Flach); grandchildren, Kaiden, Kyla, and Brielle; brother, Richard (Elizabeth); and sister, Barb (Keith) Presley.
