Maxine A. Kornmann, age 91, passed away March 1, 2025 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Maxine was born July 19, 1933, in White Rock, Minnesota. She attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Cannon Falls High School. She was lifelong friends with a group called the “Lucky 13” from her high school class.
She attended Winona State Teachers College and taught school in Spring Valley, Minnesota. She spent most of her teaching career in Roseville, Minnesota, where she taught elementary school and Title 1. She retired from teaching in 1996.
In 1959, she married Lloyd Kornmann. She and Lloyd were married until his death in 2021. They made their home in Roseville, building their house on Virginia Avenue. She loved her neighbors and fellow church members and missed them greatly after moving to St. Paul in 2021. As a couple, they traveled extensively. Nearly all trips were taken by car and usually followed the path of historical sights, museums, and often, the road less traveled. After 1970, the cabin in Siren, Wisconsin, is where you could find Maxine, Lloyd, and family when they were not at home. Maxine described the cabin as her place to relax and recharge.
After retirement, Maxine spent a great deal of time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching their music concerts, plays and sporting events. She provided daycare services for several and took those children on many sightseeing trips to places like Walnut Grove, MN, Pepin, WI, and other places related to Laura Ingalls Wilder.
In 2023, Maxine suffered weakness and lost use of her left arm. She was later diagnosed with ALS. The disease was not kind to her and robbed her of her ability to walk and speak, and eventually took her life. She battled the disease and refused to quit in spite of the lack of a cure.
Maxine is survived by her children and their families:
