Preceded in death by his wife, and the love of his life, Gerry Phillippi (Lisowski).
Dr. Phillippi is survived by his children, Cassie (Tim) Joyce, Christian (Kathy) Phillippi, Cami (Josh) Phillippi; grandchildren, Nicholas (Clare), Lucas, Frankielyn, and Charliemay; siblings, Mary Jane Sherin; and Peter (Barb) Phillippi. Paul loved his family very much, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Paul was an accomplished and admired dentist in St. Paul for over 30 years, where he was beloved by all his patients. Paul’s patients remember him for his kind, caring, and gentle demeanor. They also remember once they were seated in the dental chair, their mouths full of cotton swabs, he began telling his infamous “bad” jokes.
Paul’s family and friends remember him as a hugger. He became known for the “Phillippi goodbye,” an extended version of the Minnesota goodbye. If Paul was attending a family get together, the other attendees would have to plan for an extra half hour to accommodate for his many hugs and long goodbyes. Although we will miss Paul’s hugs and long goodbyes, we are comforted in knowing that Paul and Gerry are reunited.
Paul kept a funeral booklet, where he had answered questions about his life. One of the questions in this booklet asked, “What would you like to be remembered for?” Paul’s answer, “Compassion.”
Paul, your compassion and generosity is exactly how you will be remembered. We love you!
