Age 82, died peacefully at home on December 3, 2022.Pete is survived by the love of his life, Diane Peck Magistad, his wife of 57 years; three children, Eric (Pamela), Nancee, Nicholas (Shannon); and the apple of his eye, grandson Calvin. He’s also survived by his sister, Karen Olson (Don); sisters-in-law, Valerie Albert (Don) and Gloria Griesgraber (Bob); and brother-in-law Alan Peck; along with countless nieces and nephews, neighbors from Roseville, Shoreview and Chisago City, and friends from State Farm Insurance. Preceded in death by parents, Pete and Freda Magistad; in-laws, Joseph and Catherine Peck; and sister-in-law Angie Newsom.Pete was a 1958 graduate of Monroe H.S. and Macalester College in 1962. He worked for State Farm Insurance for 36 years as a Data Processing Manager where Pete was involved in the early stages of what is now referred to as “data science.” His son Eric comments that dad was the first person he knew with an email address. State Farm was central to his life where he met Diane. Also, his sons, daughter, and other relatives rode his coattails working at State Farm throughout the years.Pete loved baseball, hockey, golfing (and scored a hole-in-one in 1969) and Florida, along with a lifelong fondness for Blatz beer, hot dogs and Aurelio’s Pizza. Pete loved retirement and spent 27 winters in the Destin and Miramar Beach areas of Florida. He had a cranky sense of humor sometimes mistaken for impatience, but was always the first to offer counsel, support, and a helping hand. Doing the right thing - in business and in life - was his North Star.A special thank you to John, for all the strawberry malts and lifelong friendship as well as sincere gratitude for the expert care provided by daughter-in-law, Shannon, and St. Croix Hospice for a compassionate and dignified end of life experience.
