Phillip L. Stokes

Phil is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; his parents, Alfred and Bertha Stokes; and his sister, Yvonne Rude.  Phil is remembered with affection by his children, Michael, David (Nicole), Melissa (Mark), and Jeff (Marisa); grandchildren, Ian (Siwen), Danielle, Sam, Cassie, Jake, Jonas, Cole, and Evan; great-granddaughters, Kayla and McKenzie; his brother, Jim (Rhonda); many relatives, friends and students. ​A native of Elk Mound, WI, Phil graduated from Elk Mound High School in 1953. He joined the army and served in the 11th Airborne while stationed in Germany. Upon returning, he earned a BA from the University of WI, River Falls and a MA in History from the University of Minnesota. High School sweethearts, he and Carol were married in 1958 and settled in Roseville, MN where they raised their family.  Phil began his career as a history teacher at Washington High School. He then worked in the field of real estate spending most of that career in the appraisal business. Phil was a history buff and enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, cars, good food, the MN State Fair, meeting new people and spending time with family. He and Carol were avid travelers and spent their retirement traveling all over the US and across the world. He dearly missed Carol after her death and spoke lovingly of her every day. Funeral service at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2561 N. Victoria St., Roseville on Saturday, March 10 at 11 AM. Visitation at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME, 2130 N Dale St @ Co Rd B on Friday from 4-8 PM and at the church on Saturday from 10-11 AM. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 13.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Washington HS 50+ Scholarship fund, Washington Magnet Technology Magnet School, 1495 Rice St. St. Paul, MN 55117.
