Raymond William Nyberg, 83, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Ray was born in Minneapolis on Sept. 7, 1934, to Eric Gunnar Nyberg and Daisy Marian (Nordquist) Nyberg. Ray was raised and went to school in St. Louis Park, Minn. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in geological engineering in 1962. After graduation he found employment in California and later in Wichita, Kan. While in Wichita, he met and married Carole Ann Partington in 1965. In 1967 they moved to Springfield, Ill., where Ray was employed with the State of Illinois in the Division of Waters. Following the birth of their two children, Ray and Carole moved to Mankato, Minn. in 1972, and Ray began working for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MnDNR) as a division hydrologist. He worked for the MnDNR for 20 years, retiring at the age of 59. Ray and Carole moved to Hayward, Wis., during the summer months and to Joplin, Mo., during the winter months for several years. Later they moved to Linn Creek, Mo., and then to Fayetteville in 2012. Ray was always an avid walker and kept in shape by continuing to walk most days and as recent as last month. He was also a serious investor, purchasing his first stock in 1965, and trading and investing until recently. Ray enjoyed his retirement years, going on several international trips with Carole. He particularly enjoyed summers at their lake home in Hayward - fishing, enjoying the solitude, walking in the woods, and working on the many projects at their house. One of his greatest joys was to spend time with his grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Marvin; and his grandson, Johnathan Nyberg. He is survived by his wife, Carole, Fayetteville; son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Lea Nyberg, Hugo, Minn.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert Mantey, Fayetteville; and five grandchildren, Jacob, Steven, and Daniel Mantey, Fayetteville, and Juliana and Lily Nyberg, Hugo, Minn.Funeral service at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 19 at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME-ROSEVILLE, 2130 N.
