Passed away at the Maplewood Care Center on July 20, 2023 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Dick was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 8th, 1943, the second son of Peter and Eva Meyers.
He was preceded by his parents; two daughters, Mellissa and Angel; and three brothers, Peter, Ben, and Charles.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Jeff (Ruth), Kim (Joe), and Christina; stepsons, Mark (Emily) and Tim (Colleen); ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Dick spent his early years in Detroit, but the family moved to a farm in northern Minnesota when he was in school. Dick was a caregiver to his younger siblings and he told stories about those adventures. Dick left school after tenth grade, and joined the Army when he was seventeen years old. He was sent to Korea for peacekeeping after basic training where he volunteered to be a driver for an officer. He could drive and he also had enough mechanical skill to keep the Jeep running smoothly. He became a sergeant when he was only eighteen years old.
After the service, Dick returned to northern Minnesota, married, started his family and began to look into finding life work. He loved building and remodeling and this led to over forty years as a building contractor. He also enjoyed being a small business owner and ran Northside Lumber in Grand Rapids, MN.
Dick was an avid sportsman and loved golf, fishing, hunting, boating and flying. He loved his family and did as much as he could for all. This was especially true when the grandchildren began to arrive. He also loved God and volunteered for many jobs at church.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 9, 2023 at North Heights Lutheran Church, 2701 Rice Street, Roseville. Visitation at the church from 10 – 11 AM. A luncheon will be served after the service.
