Beyond his work and hobbies, Dick had a deep love for airplanes and air shows, which brought him immense joy throughout his life. He also took pleasure in the simpler things - from enjoying old-time music and polka dances to exploring new destinations through travel. His green thumb was evident in his love for gardening. During the Big Sandy cabin years, he was an experienced walleye fisherman helping friends and family catch their limit.
Dick was not only a skilled craftsman but also a beloved storyteller who captivated those around him with his tales and sense of humor. His warm demeanor and joyous laugh made him a cherished friend to many. To Dick, everyone was considered a "best friend".
