Richard A. Van Cleave

Age 81, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2020, surrounded by his wife and daughters at Abbott Northwestern hospital in South Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dick was born on August 15, 1939, in Duluth, Minnesota, and was raised in the New Brighton, Minnesota, area.  He graduated from Mounds View High School in New Brighton.  After high school he was drafted into the United States Army.  Dick served in Thailand and was honorably discharged on April 14, 1965. Dick and Linda met in January of 1965 when he was home on leave and married October 9, 1965.  They had two daughters. Dick is survived by wife, Linda; his daughters, Stacey Sempel of Forest Lake, Minnesota, and Susan Van Cleave (Dave Golla) of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin;  his grandchildren, Brett Sempel, Trent, Alex, and Emily Menne,  Anthony, Maggie, and Julian Golla; many siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local food bank in Dick’s memory. Special Note:  On Saturday, October 10, 2020, at 1:00 pm, we will be having a private service.  We would love to be sharing our sorrows and celebrating our father’s life in person with all of our family and friends.  Unfortunately, due to our mother’s risk factors in these uncertain times and the current restrictions we ask for your understanding in our decision to make this a private service.  We are working with Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Circle Pines, Minnesota, to live stream the service and will receive a hard copy of the service to share.  Click here to link to the live stream of the service. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, October 16th at 9:45 AM.
