Richard A. Jacobsen

June 12, 1935 — November 30, 2022

Richard “Dick” Jacobsen was born on June 12, 1935 to Walter and Florence Jacobsen. He grew up and attended school in White Bear Lake, MN. After High School, he served time in the Naval Reserves.

He met his wife Carol (1958 New Brighton Stockyard Days Queen) when he filled in for his friend as the driver of her float in the New Brighton Stockyard Days Parade. They were married on January 17, 1959. During their almost 63 years of marriage, they had 8 children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family playing cards, hunting, fishing, camping, taking trips and going to and watching Vikings, Saints, Twins, Gopher and Wild games.

In 2009, Richard started a Bread Ministry called Wings of Nutrition with his son Jesse. The ministry picks up food from local retailers and delivers them to local food shelves and homeless shelters. The ministry today picks up 7 days a week and is staffed by many volunteers. It has touched the lives of countless people.

During his life, Richard has had numerous jobs including Milkman at Cloverleaf Creamery, Seed and Feed Salesman, Feed Mill Owner, Farmer (he always loved animals), Twin City Testing concrete tester, and cashier at Cub Foods in New Brighton.

Being involved in church and helping others was a big part of his life. He was always sharing with someone about all the miracles, healing, and escaping death that God did during his life. He lived and shared his faith and left behind a legacy that will continue on.

Richard passed away peacefully with family at his side while at Johanna Shores Nursing Home after suffering a massive stroke. Richard was referred to as “Papa Bear” at the nursing home and always told staff to have a “blessed” day, helped with the men’s Bible study, and often prayed for staff and residents. He had a very compassionate heart, especially for those suffering or in need. He was known for his prayers before every meal, no matter where he was, and even daily prayer and devotions with his wife. Not a day was missed, even when in the hospital as they would pray by phone.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wally and Kenneth; and son, Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; seven children, Cathy (Winston) Kao of Florida, Paul (Denise) of New Brighton, Julie (Jeff) Gloege of New Brighton, Amy (Charles) Hurd of St. Cloud, Jesse (Carly) of New Brighton, Jay, and Molly; many grandchildren, Lucas Kao, April Stacy, Ryan Jacobsen, Trevor Jacobsen, Devon (Anna) Gloege, Derek Gloege, David (Christine) Hurd, Joey Hurd, Ava Wermerskirchen, Kaia (Jacob) Gray, Thomas Jacobsen, Gabriel Jacobsen, Nehemiah Jacobsen, Cullen Clarkin, Cylas Clarkin, and Livvy Clarkin; and great-grandchildren, Barrett Hurd, Evelyn Hurd, Jackson Stacy and Georgia Stacy.
