Richard D. Leitner

September 5, 1951 — October 19, 2020

Richard “Dick” Leitner, age 69, passed away on October 19, 2020 doing what he loved and surrounded by people who loved him, walking the fields while pheasant hunting in South Dakota. Dick served with the Saint Paul Fire Department for 27 years, where he retired as a Captain. If you asked what was new at work he would say, “you know, fighting fires – saving lives.” Like any firefighter, he always had a side gig. His included glazing, home inspections, serving with Local 21, and home projects. He spent his retirement entertaining family and friends on the river, hunting, gardening, boating, volunteering with Serving our Troops, and enjoying time in Costa Rica.If you stopped by the house, you’d probably find him working in the yard without a shirt and wearing cut-off shorts which were always way too short. He would tell people he should be a life coach because “who wouldn’t want my life.”He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian Leitner. Dick is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judy; children, Angie (Mike) Wiese, Lyssa (Riley) Grams, and Zach (Gizelle) Leitner; grandchildren, Avery, Isla, Luetta, and Nash; brother, Billy; sister, Mary Kay Simpson; nieces, nephews, plus many loved family and friends.  Please join us celebrating his life Friday, October 23, 2020. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 AM followed by funeral Mass at 11 AM, both at ST. ANNE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 141 Church Hill Rd, Somerset, WI. Luncheon to follow at 12:30 p.m. at General Sam’s, 710 Spring St, Somerset, WI. Masks are mandatory at all events.  Barring any technical challenges, the funeral will be live streamed or available after the Mass at www.youtube.com/ellencanderson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Paul Fire Foundation (https://stpaulfirefoundation.org).
