Richard Schmidt

Richard Raymond Schmidt born May 23rd, 1948 in Otter Tail County MN died peacefully at his home on April 27th, 2021.​He spent the summers of his youth on his beloved family farm, learning to drive a tractor when he was just six years old. He always dreamed of being a farmer. He joined the Navy and was part of the Seabees during the Vietnam War. Richard worked in commercial construction for nearly 50 years, along with countless repairs and home remodels he would do for friends and family. Richard was a generous friend, he would “give you the shirt off his back”. He was an avid outdoorsman loving to fish and hunt. He was happiest on his deer stand. He was a talented photographer and loved taking photos of nature and his family.​He was preceded in death by brothers, Gary and Jeffrey.​He is survived by his wife of 47 years Barbara; daughters, Paula (Gabriel) Blott, Cody (Nate) Giller; son, David; grandchildren, Bailey, Elizabeth, Connor, Emma and Tigerlily; brother, Jerald; brother-in-law, Martine; his faithful dog, Gordon; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is on his tractor in heaven now.  Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 4 at ST. JOSEPH OF THE LAKES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 171 Elm St., Lino Lakes.  Private interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.  Social hour/refreshments 9 – 10:15 AM in the Great Hall of the church.
