Age 92 of St. Paul, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2020. Preceded in death by parents, C. Martin and Martha (Feyder) Carroll; and siblings, Maxine Dhaemers and her husband Lawrence, Charles "Chuck" Carroll, Rev. Howard Carroll, and Veronica Kappenman and her husband Robert. Survived by nieces and nephews: from Maxine Dhaemers family; Mike (Donna) of Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy of Minneapolis, Tom, Trish (Jay Hanisch) of Sioux Falls and Paul (Marlena Larson) of Bethel, AK; from Veronica Kappenman family; David (Vickie) of Sioux Falls, Charlotte (Joe) Hughes of Azle, TX, Ralph (Kathy) of Hutchinson, KS, Richard (Linda) of Batesville, MS, Carol (Rick) Shaver of Madison, SD, Dee (Tom) Schlotterback of Sioux Falls, Ronald (Cheryl) of Sioux Falls, Leo (Mandy) of Brandon, SD, and Martin (Elizabeth) of St. Paul; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends Roger F. Carroll was born June 1, 1927 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended Cathedral Grade and High School. A veteran of World War II, he was in the Army Infantry training when the war ended. He served 18 months. After graduation from the University of St. Thomas, he was employed in the insurance business for six years before entering the St. Paul Seminary. Ordained in 1963, Father Carroll served at the Cathedral of St. Paul and was pastor of Blessed Sacrament, St. Columba, and St. Andrew in St. Paul and St. Michael in Prior Lake. He was President of the Presbytery and Chairman of the Urban Affairs Committee. He also served as Chaplain to the Minnesota State Senate and House of Representatives. And he was an ongoing volunteer at Dorothy Day Center. Family and sports were important to him. He traveled to South Dakota for all important holidays and life events – baptisms, weddings, funerals and more. He played football and hockey in high school, racquet ball and golf as an adult. And he was a fan of Minnesota sports teams: Vikings, Twins, Wild and Gophers. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM Monday, February 10 at MATERNITY OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1414 N. Dale St., St. Paul. Visitation at the church from 9-11:00 AM Monday, February 10. Interment at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Memorials preferred to Catholic Charities.
