Scott R. Semo

February 22, 1971 — December 1, 2023

Roseville, MN

Took his final journey early in the a.m. on December 1 at age 52, due to complications of a head injury at age 2 ½.

Preceded in death by dearest 4 legged companions, Dugan; his guardian angel, Gracie; and his service dogs, Magic, Daisy and Proby; his sister Natalie; his grandparents, Willis and Albertina (Ducky) Flynn, Russell Semo Sr. and Maxine; and his aunt, Dianne Tschida.

He is survived by his mother, Delores Flynn; step-father, David Larson; brothers, Tim Semo and Tony Semo (Pam Walstad); nephews, Joshua Semo and Jacob Semo (Mallory); aunt, Gail Flynn; many cousins; and his devoted care givers, Tatsiana and Rod Mertz, Nora Clark, Josh Semo, Gwen Wilson, Robin Pikala and Jasmine Laducer who helped him maintain his dignity and a somewhat normal life; and his father, Russell Semo Jr. (Gerri).

Scott graduated from Totino-Grace High School and attended Stout University and Century College. Scott had the ability to teach others life’s lessons: loving one another and yourself, respect, kindness, the ability to handle impossible situations and so much more. He was the definition of a good human being. Scott showed and trained Portuguese Water Dogs. Scott loved traveling to the dog shows around the country. He was an active member of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of the Twin Cities. These dogs were the love of his life. They gave him a sense of purpose. He enjoyed having them with him in the hospital during his lengthy stays in the ICU units at United Hospital. He always took pride in his dogs. He had developed several pet products; had a patent on one and was in the process of getting patents on his other pet products. He was writing a book when he became very ill.

Scott will be dearly missed for his dry sense of humor when it was least expected, and for the way he handled adversity and tragedy (of which there was an abundance). The highlights of Scott’s life were the Tiger cruise on the USS Enterprise and going to Palm Springs with his brother Tony; his trip to Germany to see his brother Tim and his new nephew; their cruise down the Rhine River with Tom Cruise; wine probing throughout the German countryside; the national PWD specialty in California where he met Raymond Burr; the trips to Sturgis during bike week with his mom and David on their way to Silverton, Co.; giving his mother away in marriage to David in Silverton; trips to Mexico; watching British TV programs and Harry Potter. He loved to watch MSNBC and shake his fist at the political comedy.

Our thanks to Dr. Wm. Ogden for his expertise; his devotion, his care and the Bouvier puppy visits; to Dr. Richard Gregory, Dr. Joseph Petronio and Dr. Peter Kim who never gave up on him; to the many staff at United Hospital for their wonderful care throughout these many years. Also, thanks to Dr. David Rossmiller and his staff for their care of Scott.
