Part of the Greatest Generation, he was drafted during his junior year of high school at Fargo Central High School to serve in the US Army during WWII. Teddy served from 1943-1946 in the 773rd Amphibious Tank Battalion in the Pacific Theater and proudly shared his wartime experiences. He would forego graduation in exchange for faithful service to his country until he was presented with an honorary diploma by Fargo Central High School in 2012 at age 88!Following the War, Teddy married his beautiful bride Laura, in 1948. He worked at the Fargo Cafe with his late father’s family, and later co-owned The Pheasant Cafe, where he learned the ins and outs of restaurant life which would eventually train him to be an entrepreneur. Teddy and Laura moved to Minnesota in 1958 and founded the House of Wong in Roseville, where their legacy lives on in service to their loyal customers today. Over the years, Teddy worked tirelessly to perfect his menu. The unique blend of Italian, American, and Chinese food has since become a standout characteristic of the menu. His apple pie recipe is a prized family secret.Over the years, Teddy and Laura became active pillars in the community and were blessed with four children: Renee, Doreen, Ted Jr., and John. Teddy was known for his generosity, helping many family, friends, and associates in establishing their own businesses, careers, and dreams. Once established in his career, he even returned to his family’s home village in China and established a school for the local community.Though his life was far from easy at times, Teddy faced each new chapter with determination, grace, kindness, and love. He touched many lives and his 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild hold many cherished memories of his ongoing support and infectious laugh. He taught them the value of family, hard work, integrity, and compassion as well as to enjoy every moment. He built the framework of a vibrant, thriving family and extended that joy to each of his many customers and employees over the years. He will be remembered for this legacy and greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.Teddy Wong will be fondly remembered for his legacy and greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
