Age 72, of Maplewood, Minnesota. Beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Vince passed away surrounded by loving family members on November 14, 2024, from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident. Vince was the oldest of six children born into a happy family. Always fit, Vince spent much of his life cycling—whether it was to and from work or enjoying long rides in the summer on the Paul Bunyan Trail near Brainerd. When he wasn’t cycling or working, Vince was generous with his time and used his considerable compassion and understanding as a mentor and friend—participating in the Big-Brothers Big Sisters program and the Amicus Ex-Offender program. Vince took the family lead in the care of his mother, Eileen, for the eleven years she was in long-term care and visited so often that he became friends with many of the other residents in the nursing home. He always stepped up when a family member or friend was in need. Vince was an avid reader, with a particular interest in spirituality and the afterlife. Throughout his life, he made many friends—through school, ski club, acting, theater, travel, and church. Vince was always a ready participant in being the jungle gym that many a niece and nephew found joy in climbing on, earning him the fitting moniker, “Uncle Fun.” An active recycler, composter, and energy-saver, Vince was dedicated to supporting conservation and environmental causes.
Vince attended Maternity of Mary Elementary School in St. Paul, Hill High School of Maplewood, and The College of St. Thomas in St. Paul. He served two years in the Peace Corps in Nevis, West Indies, and was co-owner of Flex Fletch Products, Inc. of White Bear Township (a small manufacturer of archery products) with his brother, Dann Grundman. He served on the boards of the Compassionate Ocean Zen Center and the Elizabeth C. Quinlan Foundation, and was an active member at Unity Church-Unitarian.
He will be missed.
Vince was preceded in death by parents, Roger Grundman and Eileen Grundman; sister, Bernadette (Bernie) Grundman; and niece, Michelle Cross. He was survived by siblings, Mari (Mark) Geis of Minneapolis, Teri (Colin) Cross of Winnetka, IL, Mike (Mary) Grundman of Roseville, Dann (Barbara) Grundman of Roseville, brother-in-law Mark Browne of White Salmon, WA; and nieces and nephews, Heidi Birdsill, Amber Sweeney, Ashley Slater, Tyler Grundman, Corissa Grundman, Ryn Cravillion, Colin Cross, Christopher Geis, Lizzie Cross, and Brian Cross; and many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 5, from 4 to 7 PM, at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home, 2130 North Dale Street, Roseville, MN.
